Job Description

As data of all kinds becomes more open and available on the web, you understand how the library catalog is the key to connecting our customers with our products. You are passionate about ensuring that bibliographic records include all of the information customers need to find their next favorites. You are a cataloging trendsetter, always looking for ways to describe new resources and make our records available in new ways. Changing cataloging standards don’t scare you; you’re ready to tackle BISAC, BIBFRAME and linked data elements head-on.

Ready to join in a bold opportunity to help us take community library services to an entirely new dynamic realm?

Who you are:

  • You understand the role of library catalog data in helping people connect with information.
  • You are eager to implement new ways of sharing library data online.
  • You are organized, detail-oriented, and keep things in tip-top order.
  • You have an easygoing nature with the flexibility to change gears easily.
  • You are a technophile; you like computers and feel comfortable learning new software programs, creating reports, and organizing your electronic files.
  • You engage well with others and are passionate about providing an exemplary customer experience.
  • You’re a team player who thinks quickly on your feet.
  • You’re excited about the prospect of growing and learning in a changing environment.
  • You inspire fun in the people around you.

Your vision:

  • Organization and details put a smile on your face. You create, implement and refine cataloging standards that will move the library forward.
  • You are a cataloging genius. You copy catalog with ease, and you love the challenge of original cataloging even when the item you’re describing is a bit unusual.
  • You respect MARC but understand that libraries will soon need to find a better way to encode catalog data. You help prepare the library for this transition by keeping up-to-date on new developments in the cataloging world.
  • You’re an explorer of ways to bring non-traditional content into the catalog, helping to make the library the go-to source for the greatest playlists, apps, technology tools and more.
  • You’re a wizard at authority control; you constantly improve our authority records to make searching easier.
  • You work with our cataloging, ILS and discovery vendors to make sure our catalog data is accurate, open and easy to use.
  • You evaluate and revise new records when they come in to ensure that they meet the library’s expectations.
  • You know that depth is vital to a good catalog record; you add details that will help our customers find what they’re looking for like awards notes, series information and subject headings.
  • You are the cataloging expert for Anythink and share your knowledge with support and branch staff.
  • You have great ideas to share on district committees and enjoy taking a leadership role.
  • You do the right thing. Every decision you make and action you take is an opportunity to demonstrate our collective integrity.

Additional Info & Requirements

Your job will involve your being ‘on the move’ in our libraries: You need to stand, walk, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, push/pull up to 50 pounds, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Expect evening and weekend shifts as part of your schedule.

REMEMBER TO APPLY BY THE POSTING DEADLINE.

Please submit a cover letter and resume for this posting.
