Summit County Government and the Summit County Library Board are currently seeking a well-qualified Library Director to oversee the County’s Library Department.
The Library Director performs complex administrative duties and is responsible for strategic management, leadership and direct supervision of all Library staff and three library facilities, oversight of Library initiatives, policies, programs and practices. In addition to the leadership role, the incumbent in this position will perform complex analytical work, will be a high-level critical thinker, and must demonstrate proficiency in a variety of Library functional areas. Functional areas overseen and managed by the Library Director include, but are not limited to: management of the library department, hiring of all personnel and oversight of their evaluations, developing library programs and long-range plan with Library Board, overseeing procurement of all library materials and monitoring library budget weekly. This individual will develop library policies and library budget with input from staff and Library Board. They will also maintain an understanding of advances in library technology and work to keep the library relevant in a changing world. This position reports to the Assistant County Manager.
In Summit County, there are three library branches: The North Branch in Silverthorne, CO, The Main Branch in Frisco, CO and The South Branch in Breckenridge, CO.
MLS degree from an accredited university preferred and a minimum of 5 years supervisory and library administrative experience or equivalent education and experience.
The ideal candidate will combine strong Library Science expertise with exceptional leadership, interpersonal and administrative skills. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills, and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful and/or difficult situations. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task are required. Individual must be self-directed, highly organized, flexible, detail oriented, and have the ability to manage information and data in a strictly confidential manner. Critical thinking, developing solutions and improving existing programs to meet the ever-changing needs of the organization are an important aspect of this position. Individual must have extensive experience with employee relations. Valid Colorado Driver's License at time of appointment and throughout employment.
