Job Description

What You'd Do

Work in the Central Library's Western History and Genealogy Department to create positive experiences for library customers by processing and converting library materials. Develop accurate, useful and complete catalog records. Use online databases to verify records for accuracy and completeness. Assign Dewey classifications and create call numbers for library materials. Assign descriptive metadata to digital resources and ingest them into our digital asset management (DAM) system. Perform other varied clerical duties including fulfilling manuscript/microfilm requests and completing cash reports.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, starting salary is typically made at or near the range minimum. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.  

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evenings and weekends.

You Have

Knowledge of cataloging rules and practices. Knowledge of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd revised edition (AACR2r) and Resource Description and Access (RDA) cataloging rules and practices as they apply to copy cataloging. Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Skill in operating a computer and working with attention to detail. Ability to make simple mathematical computations. Ability to thrive working in a production environment with high productivity expectations. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to use basic workplace technology including email, internet and automated software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

A Bachelor's degree.

One year of library experience using records to shelve, circulate, acquire or catalog materials.

Knowledge of descriptive metadata practices and digital collection workflows (preferred, not required).
