Job Description

This is a responsible administrative and professional level position assisting in the administration of the City's Library programs. Position reports to the Library Services Manager. Will be responsible for management and administration of all aspects of the Library's Technical Services department, including the following: ordering, receiving, cataloging, and processing all new library materials, maintaining accurate bibliographic and authority records, and repairing damaged library materials. May be required to work some evenings and weekends. Performs related work as required. May occasionally assist in providing direct service to patrons of all ages, by serving in a reference, readers' advisory, programming, and/or circulation capacity on an as-needed basis. Serves as acting Library Services Manager as assigned.

Frequent use of telephones, computer terminals, personal computers, bar code readers, and various types of audio/visual equipment. Infrequent use of photocopy machines, book security system equipment, document scanners, microfiche & microfilm reader/printers, and various projectors. May be required to use personal transportation to travel to the library's various facilities and other locations, in the provision of regular library services and programs.Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of library science and an awareness of the broad range of library materials, specifically appropriate to a public library clientele. Thorough knowledge of and experience with cataloging principles and practices using the Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress Classification system. Experience with MARC format, AACR2, LCSH, automated library systems, and Internet services. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with Technical Services staff members, other library staff, other City employees, and City residents. Works cooperatively with Front Range Community College (FRCC) library staff, especially FRCC Technical Services staff members. Ability and willingness to keep informed of new and innovative library and information services (examples include: RDA, FRBR, and RFID). Ability to manage the activities and programs of a specialized area of the Library. Ability to assign and review the work of technical services staff. Ability to organize and present oral and written reports. Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and other specialized library software. Must possess a valid United States driver's license, provide proof of a safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record for continued employment. Successful candidates will be required to complete a pre-placement physical and a substance screen prior to employment. Background investigations may be done prior to employment.
