Job Description

The University of Kansas Medical Center seeks flexible, team-oriented, and collaborative candidates for the position of Health Sciences Librarian, School of Medicine Liaison (SOM). This Health Sciences Librarian position provides education and research services for the SOM, including teaching faculty, researchers, students, and clinicians. Through individual consultations, project leadership, and team-based instruction, this position fosters academic excellence and evidence-based practice. The position contributes to the University Medical Center’s vision for discovery and research through expert literature searches and by participating in the systematic review program. The Research & Learning team works in a highly collaborative environment and we are looking for innovative and energetic candidates who share our values of knowledge, openness, collaboration, service, and diversity. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Research and Learning.

Salary range: $50,000 - $58,000 commensurate with experience.

The School of Medicine has three campuses located in Kansas City, Wichita, and Salina. This position will be located at the A.R. Dykes Library of the Health Sciences on the University of Kansas Medical Center campus in Kansas City, Kansas.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school of library/information science.

Strong written and verbal communication skills demonstrated within the application and in the interview process.

Aptitude for critical thinking demonstrated within the application and in the interview process.

Commitment to working in a professional, collaborative team environment, demonstrated within the application and in the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in using various research and educational technologies (Learning Management Systems, MS Office, LibGuides, search engines, etc.)

Strong health sciences database searching skills.

Experience with curriculum or course development, lesson planning, and educational assessment.

Experience using and teaching citation management software.

Minimum 2 years work history in an academic health center, health sciences library/organization, academic library or similar research context.

Background in embedded or liaison librarianship for health sciences units.

Ability to work with all university levels including students, faculty, researchers, residents, and fellows.

Experience in conducting and/or publishing complex research such as in-depth literature reviews, scholarly research, systematic reviews, etc.

Background in principles of scholarly communication, copyright and author’s rights, and bibliometrics.
