Job Description

We are currently conducting a search for a Technology Trainer and Digital Resource Librarian who will promote optimal use of PCCLD’s e-resources and digital collections by providing public programming and training on library information technologies. In addition, this position will provide reference, readers’ advisory, and proactive customer service as a member of the Reference & Readers’ Advisory Department (R&RA) and will provide back-up support to the R&RA Manager.

The Technology Trainer and Digital Resource Librarian reports to the Manager of the R&RA Department and works as a team member of the department; occasionally serving as the person-in-charge of the department or the Rawlings Library. The position works closely with Special Collections, Technical Services and the IT department on implementing new public use library information technology resources and will work with outside organizations, schools and vendors. The position spends a significant amount of time working directly with library customers providing instruction and customer service and will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with all people regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, ability level or background.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops a variety of instructional training programs for adults on use of library information technology resources to include classroom training, instructional videos, on-line step-by-step instructions and training materials designed to reach a diverse audience.

Develops curriculum to ensure consistency in training throughout the district on how to access public library e-resources and digital collections such as: databases, audiobooks, e-books and magazines, downloadable movies and music, as well as instructional training for software, computers, laptops and tablets use.

Collaborates with department and branch managers to ensure all staff are well trained on library information technology resources. Records and monitors staff progress and assesses the need for additional training.

Creates evaluation tools to monitor the impact of public training classes.

Provides proactive customer service, reference, and readers’ advisory and instructional assistance to customers in the R&RA department; is routinely assigned to the service desk and may be assigned special projects, committees or assignments.

Provides back-up coverage to the R&RA Manager which includes overseeing staff and scheduling, resolving customer concerns, responding to safety and security incidents and facility issues.

Explains policies, issues suspensions, and works with security staff and first responders on a regular basis.

Works with members of the library profession, outside organizations and businesses to build partnerships, seek grant funding opportunities, and develop collaborative efforts that are supported by the library’s mission.

Coordinates with Community Relations in creating training and promotional materials for technology and digital training resources.

Collaborates with IT, Technical Services and Special Collections on current public use information technologies and to introduce new information resources and tools to staff and customers.

Works with Technical Services to maintain e-resources and digital collections. Participates in vendor demonstrations and training for new e-resources and digital collections as a train the trainer for the district.

This position will be assigned the role of Person in Charge (PIC) at the Rawlings Library on a regular basis to respond to any escalated customer service, emergency, or security issues and will work closely with the security officer on duty.

Supports team efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and staff by maintaining awareness of surroundings and working in accordance with safety policies and procedures.

Participates in regularly scheduled department meetings. Attends All Staff Development Days and other training sessions to acquire new skills and to stay current on all information that is pertinent to PCCLD.

Reads daily organizational communications from intranet, e-mail, newsletters and print announcements. Stays current on all library services, programs and events throughout the district. Regularly accesses electronic time keeping, payroll and personnel employee access systems.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of adult materials in print, electronic, periodical, video, digital and other mediums.
  • Expert level of knowledge in the field of Electronic Resources and Digital Collections.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Internet software and media applications, digital technologies, Google, Android and Apple software a must.
  • Ability to plan, instruct and transfer information to a diverse population; knowledge of adult learning models. Demonstrated ability to develop programming that meets the community’s needs.
  • Knowledge of research techniques, reference resources, databases and internet resources.
  • Ability to conduct complex reference interviews, to analyze requests and to apply research skills to locate specialized information or provide customers with alternative sources.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to plan, develop, organize and execute job assignments.
  • Excellent customer relations skills and the ability to deal with difficult situations and resolve issues.
  • Spanish speaking skills helpful.

Physical RequirementsMust be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and push /pull a fully loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds.

Other Requirements: Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends. Must submit to and successfully pass a criminal background investigation. Must possess a clean driving record, current Colorado Driver's License and provide proof of automobile insurance.
