Under the limited supervision of the Library Coordinator, Library Assistants are responsible for performing customer service and administrative duties relating to library services and the circulation of library materials. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: working at the circulation desk, serving patrons and contributing to library organization and upkeep. May be asked to help with additional duties under the direction of District staff and/or management.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a level of independent judgment and initiative to accomplish tasks and solve problems in a consistent and accurate manner and in a variety of situations. An essential aspect of this position is the creativity and innovation required to enhance the mere application of a skill. Such a level is generally acquired by at least two (2) years of experience in a library environment. Experience must provide a working knowledge of library organization and procedures, as well as the Dewey Decimal System.
High School Diploma required. Some college preferred.
Must be highly skilled with computers, internet devices and standard office equipment. Must be proficient in reading and writing English, and in applying library rules and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is primarily performed in an office environment, and includes the following physical activities: standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and keyboarding. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Hearing voice conversation is essential to safe and effective job performance. SUPERVISORY: May be placed in charge when the Library Coordinator or District management is not present.
