Job Description

What You'd Do

Join the Children's Library and work collaboratively to provide services and materials for children and families. Support the Library's strategic initiatives by fostering emerging readers and building relationships with parents, educators and caregivers to develop school-age readers and life-long learners. Create positive experiences by providing reference, readers/media advisory, collection maintenance, and ECRR-based story times. Design and present a variety of programs for children of all ages to create learning opportunities and spark curiosity. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff, volunteers and administration. Promote programs and services via community and school outreach, the library web site and social media. Oversee library operations as assigned.

This full-time, limited term position is funded through December 31, 2019. Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend hours.

You Have

Knowledge of library services for infancy through early adolescence. Knowledge of materials and best practices for emerging readers. Knowledge of positive youth development practices. Knowledge of children's literature. Knowledge of information needs, collection maintenance and reader/media guidance for all ages. Skill in organization and project management. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups. Ability to thrive in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and the community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, and other software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

A Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or plans to receive one within 90 days of hire.

One-year experience working with children in a structured environment (preferred, not required).

Spanish language fluency (preferred, not required).
