What You'd Do

The Director of Neighborhood Services is an integral part of the Denver Public Library Executive Team and, under general direction from the City Librarian and Chief of Staff, provides leadership, oversight and management of the Neighborhood Services Division, which is comprised of twenty five branch libraries; six regional managers; a project coordinator and executive assistant; and oversight of branch library personnel that totals approximately 270 FTE.

Denver Public Library strives to provide individuals with equitable opportunities for discovery and growth through development of equitable access to libraries and services throughout Denver. As such, Neighborhood Services is reflective of and responsive to identified community needs. Its Director must be community-oriented; a thought leader; energized by innovation and calculated risk-taking; and proactive in making connections with stakeholder organizations and groups that support and comprise Denver's diverse communities.

The ideal candidate is a big picture thinker with outstanding leadership and management skills who will bring new and fresh ideas to a dynamic, high-performing organization. Excellent communication, public speaking and presentation skills are essential. Experience in developing specialized library services and programs in an urban library setting (children's and teen programs, adult services, cultural curriculum, etc.) is expected. Preparation and management of the division's operating budget and standard operating procedures are also required.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers depend on qualifications and typically do not exceed the midpoint. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and likely will include evening and weekend hours.

A Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

Six (6) years of professional experience in a large urban library; three (3) years of the required experience must include high-level/executive managerial experience.
