Job Description

Position Summary

This position reports to the Interlibrary Loan Supervisor and is responsible for assisting with lending and borrowing functions. This position will also collect data and reports for the various functions under the purview of the Interlibrary Loan Unit. Works at the Service Desk as scheduled. This position is responsible for the opening the library on Sundays and the work schedule is Sunday through Thursday (10am-6pm). On occasion the schedule can be flexible as this position provides coverage for other staff as needed.

 

 

 

Essential Functions

  • Supports Resource Sharing workflow within the Interlibrary Loan unit.
  • Responsible for Prospector Borrowing and Lending, ensuring requests are processed within a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepares ILL and Prospector materials for shipment through courier, USPS, and international shipment.
  • Completes the Prospector reconciliation process annually.
  • Assists with Interlibrary Loan Borrowing including processing Faculty requests, responding to conditional requests, resubmitting canceled requests, checking copyright compliance, and verifying citations.
  • Assists with Interlibrary Loan Lending including locating and preparing materials to be loaned.
  • Processes and delivers electronic book requests according to licensing guidelines.
  • (40%) Responsible for opening the library on Sundays.
  • Shares responsibility for building safety, including communication and implementation of the library’s Disaster Plan.
  • (10%) Responsible for running and clearing status reports within ILLiad, Alma, and Millennium/DCB systems for quality control purposes.
  • (15%) Provides back-up support for Interlibrary Loan borrowing including transmitting student and staff ILL requests in a timely manner, assists in planning and implementing procedures, and communicates Interlibrary Loan policies to patrons and lending libraries.
  • Corresponds with lending libraries regarding overdue, recall, renewal, and billing notifications.
  • (10%) Works on-call at the Service Desk assisting and coaching student employees on Service Desk activities utilizing the Alma system to checkout and check in library material, collect fines utilizing the credit card machine, answer user questions utilizing the library website and policies manual, and refer patrons to the appropriate department within the library or DU campus as needed.
  • Communicate access and borrowing polices to users and resolve patron issues.
  • Forward unresolved concerns to Access Services Librarian and Access Services Manager as soon as possible and communicate Service Desk concerns and relevant information to Access Services staff and other stakeholders within the library.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow established procedures and to perform work requiring considerable attention to detail.
  • Ability to collect and analyze statistics.
  • Ability to use an automated library system and PC.
  • Ability and willingness to troubleshoot office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain clerical records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff, users, and University Faculty.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work under pressure, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously is required.

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience performing detailed work in an automated system
  • Experience in public service or customer service is required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a library.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and perform work requiring attention to detail.

Work Schedule

  • Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Evenings and weekends as required.
