Join the Mesa County Libraries team, district, and communities as its next proven, visionary leader. The successful candidate will be a library champion—capable of inspiring a committed library staff and the community. As the “face and voice” of the Library, the Director will build relationships and lead the advance toward new service frontiers.  Under the general direction of the seven-member appointed Board of Trustees, the Director will serve 150,000 Mesa County residents from eight locations with a $6.8 million annual operating budget. Working with a collaborative, high-performing team of 74FTE, the Director will have a significant impact on an exceptional Library District and community in a solid well-financed environment. Key opportunities include assuring that the Library evolves to meet user needs— expanding the innovative uses of the 970West Studio; finalizing funding and building of a new branch; supporting and promoting organizational values of trust, staff participation, and team management; and continuing outstanding levels of service and effective resource sharing.

Responsibilities. Under the direction of the governing Board of Trustees, the Library Director is responsible for the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of all library services and programs. The Director collaboratively develops and implements the strategic plan, works in conjunction with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement library policies, prepares and presents the annual budget, stays abreast of library and industry best practices, pursues sound facilities management, and sets the standard of excellence for all operations. The successful candidate will also model a collaborative, positive style of leadership ensuring proper management of personnel and encouraging a climate of inclusivity. In addition to internal collaboration and team building, the Director will be the primary spokesperson and ensure that the Library is successful in fundraising, development, and communications. Working with community leaders and elected officials is a critical part of the position. Please see the position description for details.

Qualifications. Minimum qualifications are a Master’s in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and five years of progressively responsible experience in a library environment or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work and lead the organization. Essential skills include a strong commitment to customer service, the ability to adapt to change, a willingness to take initiative and act on opportunities, political savvy, and the ability to collaborate in a team environment through strong administrative skills. Successful experience reporting to a governing board and experience in a multi-branch environment are preferred.

Compensation.  $98,509 -$125,061 (commensurate with experience) with an excellent benefits package.
