Job Description
This position has a deep understanding of best practices and emerging trends in circulation services and library customer relations and how they fit into the broader organizational mission; and develops standards and best practices, strategies, and workflows for the Circulation section in accordance with library policies, professional standards, and university and state requirements. This includes an expert knowledge of relevant library systems applied to section functions. The position manages the section as a critical front-line support area, collaborating with other library units to deliver seamless user services and foster community relations and awareness of library programs with the campus and other communities. This position supervises, trains and evaluates library technicians; and hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student employees. The position demonstrates commitment to the Library's values of positive user experience, discovery, connection, equity, and stewardship.
Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the University Librarian, the Circulation and User Services Manager will provide leadership and strategic direction for one of the Library’s primary public service points. The position is responsible for supervising one or more full-time library technicians and overseeing a team of 40-50 student employees, in providing exemplary circulation and user services.
Specific duties include:
- Serves as lead of the Circulation team, developing, documenting, and implementing section goals, objectives, standards, and policies.
- Coordinates the hiring, training, and supervision of the Circulation team that responds effectively to user queries and issues with a focus on customer service.
- As part of the circulation team, provides services including: room reservations, course reserves, and stacks management.
- Collects statistics and conducts assessment pertinent to the section.
- Oversees circulation team scheduling, from the library’s opening to closing .
- Develops and maintains working knowledge of applicable library systems and operations, library policies, professional standards, and university and state requirements.
- Collaborates with library colleagues on projects, initiatives, and issue resolution
- Engages in professional development and service.

Additional Info & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited program.
- Significant supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated customer service experience in a library environment
- Commitment to working with diverse populations and values of inclusivity and accessibility.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and experience with library circulation services and library circulation software systems.
- Experience working in an academic setting with faculty, staff, students, and members of the public.
- Breadth of supervisory experience, including student employees.
- Understanding of the workflows of other units in an academic library, for example, reference services, interlibrary loan, cataloging, acquisitions.

The Library supports the information and educational needs of Mines, primarily in science and engineering, and provides technical information to the regional community.
