 Position Overview:

Boise State University’s Albertsons Library seeks an innovative, forward‐thinking, service‐oriented person who excels at motivating and inspiring others, to serve as Head of Instruction and Research Services (IRS). Reporting to the Library Dean, the IRS Head supervises a team of faculty and staff, providing leadership to establish and implement goals, objectives, priorities, and performance standards for research, reference, instruction, and information literacy.  In this role you will:

  • Collaborate with passionate talented Librarians and Staff to re-envision the role of research, instruction and liaison activities at the center of a progressive, growing university in a dynamic metropolitan community
  • “Work collectively on an ongoing basis to build and maintain a community that understands, celebrates, and values diversity, and expects and fosters inclusivity at all levels” (Statement of Diversity and Inclusivity)
  • Work with colleagues to plan and implement programs in a fast‐paced environment where a focus on student success, experimentation, creativity, and appropriate risk taking are balanced to move initiatives forward
  • Help develop an agile, welcoming library environment focused on data driven decisions and staff development that positions the Library and Boise State University for success
  • Coordinate the design, implementation, and assessment of innovative, user‐centered research and curriculum support services
  • Work creatively and collaboratively to build partnerships with faculty, campus departments, and community groups in support of the University’s teaching, research, and service missions
  • Provide leadership and vision that advocates for transdisciplinary research, diversity and inclusion, transformational library services, and student success
  • Serve as a member of the Collections Council and assume shared responsibility for collections management and fostering use of library resources and collections

 This is a full‐time, 12‐month, tenure‐track position with faculty status and academic rank. Appointment will be at a rank commensurate with experience and dependent upon qualifications and record of professional service and scholarly publication. Library faculty must meet Library and University requirements to achieve promotion and tenure.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master's degree from an American Library Association accredited program in library and information studies
  • Evidence of strong supervisory skills developed through increasing responsibilities over 5 years or more
  • Experience supervising faculty or librarians with academic rank/academic status working toward promotion, rank, and/or tenure in an academic environment
  • Experience planning and providing services and programs related to instruction, research, or liaison services in an academic or research library environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest, experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competency, diversity and/or inclusive excellence
  • Experience with or experience assessing the effectiveness of learning, programs, services and/or spaces
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in research and instructional services.
