Reporting to the Evening Supervisor, this position is responsible for the overdue, lost book, and claims returned reconciliation processes for University Libraries. On occasion this position provides coverage outside of their normal schedule as needed. All staff participate in a team-based organization and this position is a member of the Access Services Team. This position works Tuesday-Saturday 6pm-10pm, and may share responsibility for closing the Anderson Academic Commons.
- Responsible for processing of overdue, lost book, and claims returned reconciliation processes. Responsible for responding to patron questions and concerns regarding overdue and lost books. Places holds on patron records in Banner as necessary.(25%)
- Works on-call at the Service Desk assisting and coaching student employees on Service Desk activities utilizing the Alma system to check-out and check-in library material. Collects fines utilizing the credit card machine, answers user questions utilizing the library website and policies manual, and refers patrons to the appropriate department within the library or DU campus as needed. Communicates access and borrowing polices to users and resolve patron issues. Forwards unresolved concerns to Access Services Librarian as soon as possible and communicates Service Desk concerns and relevant information to the access on call distribution list and other stakeholders within the library. (25%)
- Puts graduation holds in Banner. Communicates with graduating students, sending reminders to bring back library items and pay fines (25%)
- Adjusts lost item replacement fees in Alma based on predefined standards as established by the Access Services Librarian and Library Administration. Assists Access Services Librarian with Graduation Holds list each quarter. (10%)
- Maintains the hold shelves on Fridays and Saturdays. Pulls expired holds and strightens the books. (10%)
- Works Tuesday through Saturday 6pm-10pm and works a flexible schedule as needed. Helps at the on-call desk as necessary. Assists in closing the library when needed and shares responsibility for building safety, including communication and implementation of the library's Disaster Plan.(5%)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be able to work Tuesday-Saturday 6PM-10PM on a regular basis.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed.
- Must have good communication skills to be able to interact well with other staff.
- Proficiency in the English language is needed.
- Must be able to communicate with diplomacy and tact, both in person, on the telephone, and via email.
- Basic math skills.
- Must be able to count money and make change in US dollars and record results.
- Must be detail-oriented with ability to maintain thorough and accurate reports and statistics on money counts and transactions and other work performed.
- Good judgment, problem solving, and decision making skills are necessary to ensure accuracy in a detail oriented environment, and to ensure quality interactions with library staff and users.
- Ability to follow closely, established procedures and to perform work requiring considerable attention to detail.
- Ability to use an automated library system and PC.
- Ability to maintain clerical records.
- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization.

Other Required/Preferred Skills & Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee and direct the workflow of staff.
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous library experience.
- Experience with working with the public.
- Knowledge of library computer systems.
Must have the ability to perform shelving activities, which require stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 35 pounds.
