Job Description

The temporary Government Information Librarian participates as a member of the Government Publications Library team in the provision of instructional programs and reference and information services. The person in this position will be responsible for reference, instruction, and Web maintenance for the Government Publications Library. The Government Publications Library at the University of Colorado at Boulder is a depository for the State of Colorado, the federal government, the United Nations, and the European Union. The library also has extensive collections of materials from international agencies such as the World Bank, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the United Nations Environment Programme. In addition to providing specialized reference and instruction for government information, the person in this position will participate in the Research Desk, a combined service point for all departments housed in Norlin Library. This position reports to the head of the Government Publications Library.

Appointment and Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed for one year as a temporary full-time (12 month) lecturer or instructor with the possibility of renewal. Anticipated start date is June 1, 2008. Salary will be $36,000. Benefits include 22 working days vacation, 10 paid holidays, liberal sick leave, and the option of participating in the University group health care and group life insurance plans. Requirements: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school completed or in progress, a commitment to teaching and the library’s instructional role in undergraduate education, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, strong interpersonal skills, and effective oral and written communication skills. Desirable Qualifications: Experience or coursework with government information, proficiency with html coding or Dreamweaver, proficiency with Office 2007, and the ability to load/troubleshoot software applications. Experience with Web 2.0 applications such as blogs, wikis, and IM.
