Job Description

As a key member of the Access Services Department at the W. Frank Steely Library, the Access Services Specialist is responsible for providing top-notch customer service while serving at the main information service point for the library. Meeting customer needs includes answering directional and other questions, checking in and out library materials using an automated library circulation system, and providing first-tier reference. This position also helps train student employees and assists with overseeing shelving and inventory procedures. Responsibilities include: - Provides exceptional customer service to all library users at main Public Service desk by answering directional and first-tier reference questions - Responsible for materials check out and check in - Assists with training student employees and general supervision, when appropriate - Helps oversee stack maintenance assignments and inventory duties Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality, communications, human services, social sciences, humanities, library science, or a related discipline. • 2 years of experience in customer service. • Ability to do basic troubleshooting of equipment, including network printers, photocopiers, scanners, etc. ● Ability to handle basic financial transactions. ● Ability to analyze problems and make independent decisions in a dynamic, iterative environment. ● Understanding of, and passion for, improving user experience in a busy direct service environment. ● Demonstrated ability to create a work environment that promotes teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness. ● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
