Job Description

OSU Libraries and Press (OSULP) is looking for an enthusiastic, collaborative and detail-oriented individual to join the Acquisitions Unit.  This person will steward the print portion of the library serials collection, while also seeking to improve discovery of our electronic serials resources.  The ideal candidate will have prior experience processing invoices and credits, as well as experience with tracking and reporting on budget-related data. This position will collaborate regularly with stakeholders both within and outside of OSULP through proactive communication and problem-solving.

This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Library Technician 3 position for the OSU Libraries and Press at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Library Technician 3 (LT3) for Oregon State University Libraries and Press (OSULP) resides in the Acquisitions unit based in Corvallis, OR. The primary responsibilities include managing OSULP’s serial resources lifecycle (print and electronic serials, standing orders, and other media) for the Resource Acquisitions & Sharing Department (RAS). The lifecycle includes setting up trials, ordering, canceling, processing invoices, and maintaining related records in the Integrated Library System (ILS).

The LT3 position will also collaborate with relevant Valley Library departments to align workflows; create and revise documentation and procedure manuals; work collaboratively with other staff, taking primary responsibility for coordinating workflows related to collection management. They will have the opportunity to work with the electronic resources LT3 staff member to address technical and service related issues to ensure the library’s online resources are accessible by patrons. They are expected to cross-train, participate and/or lead projects, and grow in a team-oriented environment.

Position Duties
  • 35% PRINT SUBSCRIPTION LIFE CYCLE
    • Maintains and processes existing print serials resources – this includes creating and maintaining relevant holdings and order records. As many of OSU Libraries’ print serial subscriptions are migrated to electronic versions, this position will be responsible for identifying and loading appropriate electronic bibliographic and holdings records in the ILS as well as updating relevant holdings in OCLC. The LT3 will need to collaborate with stakeholders (i.e., library faculty, staff, and vendors) on new orders, renewals and when fulfilling calls for print holdings from WEST repository libraries and other projects.
  • 20% FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Responsible for communicating with internal and external stakeholders, and processing payment of invoices and credits (i.e., receiving and coding invoices and credits, tracking payments) for print and electronic resources. Responsible for balancing expenditures and creating reports by referring to ILS and OSU’s financial databases (e.g., Banner, P-Card, eProcurement system, etc.). The incumbent in this position will be responsible for collaborating with unit members to close the fiscal year in the ILS.
  • 15% ELECTRONIC SUBSCRIPTION LIFE CYCLE
    • Maintains and processes new and existing electronic serials resources – this includes creating and maintaining relevant holdings and order records. Communicates with stakeholders by phone and/or email to process trial and price quote requests, and assists with maintaining accurate coverage and access information for OSULP’s robust electronic resource collection. Reviews and monitors publisher and vendor announcements for changes in publication frequencies, and title changes.
  • 15% STUDENT SUPPORT
    • Assists with the training and ongoing support of unit’s student workers and provides feedback on the quality of their work.
  • 10% COLLABORATIONS
    • Actively participates in unit and department meetings, committees or task forces as directed by the Acquisitions Unit Supervisor or RAS Director. The LT3, as the subject expert in this position, is expected to contribute to decision-making discussions, collaborate with consortia groups and repository organizations such as Orbis Cascade Alliance, Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) and The Western Regional Storage Trust (WEST).
  • 5% COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
    • Responds to requests from the OSULP’s Collection Council to provide reports pertaining to pricing models, content, and licensing information for resources under consideration for renewal, transition between print and electronic formats, or deselection.
Minimum QualificationsBachelors degree plus two years of current (within 5 years) experience in a Library; OR 4 years of current library experience. AND Advanced proficiency in multiple library specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repository; content management systems. Some positions may also require in-depth knowledge of specialty area(s), e.g., original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, serials management, ILL management, government documents, image resources, music.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Excellent customer service experience.
  • Experience processing and maintaining physical serial resources in an ILS.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Experience processing, paying, and tracking invoices and credits.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining library holdings in OCLC Connexion.
  • This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Ex Libris Alma experience (Primo experience is a plus.).
  • Familiarity with document sharing suites (i.e. Google, Box, Confluence, etc.).
  • Experience maintaining electronic resources in an ILS.
  • Hands-on experience managing a collection of print serials and standing orders.
  • Experience receiving and processing print government documents.
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
