Job Description

Outreach Manager

Role: 

Manages the operations of the Outreach department and oversees the planning and delivery of library services and programs to a broad range of community members.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

30% - PUBLIC SERVICE MANAGEMENT – Sets standards for the operation of the department, develops concepts, practices, techniques, and innovations to improve the quality of service, challenges operating processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness, and facilitates problem-solving; managers and coordinates a functional area of public services in order to manage the service operations of the department and function. (Essential)

20% - RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – Sets goals for the department establishes timelines for completion, and monitors achievement by reviewing reports from staff and Finance in order to control operations and achieve desired outcomes for the branch. (Essential)

15% - OPERATIONS CONTROL – Sets goals for the department, establishes timelines for completion, and monitors achievement by reviewing reports from staff and Finance in order to control operations and achieve desired outcomes for the branch. (Essential)

10% - SUPERVISION OF STAFF – Gets information, makes sense of it, sets objectives, organizes resources and makes decisions, coach staff and provides feedback, manages conflict and appraises performance in order to optimize the expected performance of staff. (Essential)

10% - PUBLIC RELATIONS – Represents the library district to the community, business, government and social groups, agencies and associations through public speaking engagements, committee participation, and membership affiliation, and in connection with public dissatisfaction. (Essential)

10% - PATRON ASSISTANCE – Fields and resolves patron complaints; assists patrons in the use of library materials and technology by guiding them in searching the catalog and stacks, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet in order to locate resources in the collection and on the World Wide Web. (Essential)

5% - BACK-UP – Performs the duties of direct and indirect reports in their absence to ensure the proper functioning of the organizational unit. (Essential)

Minimum Requirements:

Education: 

Master of Library and Information Science

Experience: 

Three to Five years of similar experience

Valid Driver’s license

Or any combination of education and experience which provides the success factors.
