About the college Position Announcement Position Title: Assistant Librarian (Half-Time) Position # 23051 Position Status: Exempt Non-Classified (Pro-Tech) FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: Director of Library Services Supervises: May supervise work-study students The Position: The Community College of Aurora Library is dedicated to high-quality service and is expanding its services by integrating technology into the learning environment. Like other departments of the college, the library utilizes technology to enhance the learning process while also placing high value on collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. The successful applicant for this position will possess good communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to deliver high quality, technology-based library services. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Librarian will support students, faculty and community members as they access information using secured library research databases; provide professional reference services, including virtual chat reference service through Ask Colorado; provide email reference services through Ask Colorado; work with Faculty to develop collection in specific subject areas; collection management, including reviews of professional journals and professional book review sources; conduct information access classes at the Lowry and CentreTech campuses; utilize the Millennium integrated library system to maintain the library catalog and track circulation; assist in maintaining the library’s digital, print and media resources; assist in management of library website; work with database vendors in troubleshooting online access issues; and collect and analyze data on the use of library resources. The person hired for this position must be able to work Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Anticipated Start Date: August 1, 2008 Salary: High teens to low 20s annually to start (50% position). Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in the liberal arts from an accredited college or university and one year of library experience. Preferred Qualifications: Strong computer skills including MS Office applications and Internet searching; knowledge of a variety of electronic and print reference resources; knowledge of online catalogs, databases and Prospector; knowledge of access and navigation tools and approaches; understanding of digital formats; ability to work with people of a variety of backgrounds and cultures; experience in providing library services in a community college setting; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; energetic, self-motivated, able to multi-task.
