Job Description

Employment Requirement: City Employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 30, 2021. All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination prior to starting employment.

The Denver Public Library is looking for two Library Assistant IIs to join the team at our Woodbury Branch. This is an exciting opportunity to experience to serve a diverse community with opportunity for learning and growth. Here's what you'd do:

  • Support library functions by assisting with collection maintenance, clerical duties, programming, and other duties as assigned.
  • Answer customer questions about using library resources and locating library materials.
  • Stay current on library policy and procedures, especially those relating to circulation.
  • Support the library's goal of being a learning organization by participating in approved learning opportunities.
  • Use technology and other mechanical tools related to the processing of library materials.
  • Create positive experiences for library customers by checking out/returning books and other library materials, registering customers for library cards, placing holds/ordering books and other library materials from other agencies, correcting database holdings and other varied clerical duties.

Our ideal candidate is skilled in creating a warm and welcoming environment for all customers. They're team-oriented and while they will be largely responsible for circulation duties, they're also able to support team members with pulling holds and programming. Additionally, they have:

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in operating a computer and working with attention to detail.
  • Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information.
  • Skill in cash handling. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
  • Ability to make simple mathematical computations.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to adapt to the ebb and flow of material intake.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to use basic workplace technology including email, internet and automated software.
  • Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.
  • Spanish language fluency (preferred, not required).

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info
