Job Description

Lawrence Public Library is looking for an individual who takes pride in a safe and secure environment that everyone in the community can enjoy. 

Here’s some of what we’ll need you to do:

  • Be a dependable self-starter and have a strong work ethic.
  • Patrol / monitor the library to ensure compliance with behavior guidelines.
  • Investigate security incidents; issuing reports, suspensions, and bans according to established policies.
  • Interact respectfully and calmly with the public, even in stressful encounters.
  • Diffuse tense situations and initiate calls for assistance to police or emergency personnel as needed.
  • Opens the building to the public and secures the building at close.

Here’s some of what we’re looking for:

  • You value teamwork, but you don’t mind working alone.
  • You will need a high school education or equivalent and experience working in a security role.
  • You are certified or willing to be trained in CPR and basic first aid.
  • You believe a great city deserves a great library and won’t settle for less.

We are looking for someone who can work:

  • Wednesdays  – 2 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
  • Fridays  –  2 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
  • Saturdays – 10 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.
  • Sunday – 10 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Starting at a total of 26 hours per week.
