Job Description

The Wichita Public Library has an immediate opening for an innovative and dynamic 
person to join our team as an adult programming services librarian. This position will be 
part of the Adult Programming Services team at the Advanced Learning Library in 
Wichita’s Delano neighborhood. 
Our successful candidate is a person who demonstrates a strong commitment to 
working with the public, facilitates life-long learning opportunities, and skillfully and 
enthusiastically designs and presents programming for diverse interests and audiences. 
This position will have a strong focus on services and resources relating to small 
business and non-profits. Candidates should have outstanding communication and 
presentation skills, initiative and interpersonal skills, strong reader’s advisory and 
research capabilities, and competency with technologies including personal computer 
applications and devices. 
This is an exempt position. Below is a typical work schedule that includes working one 
evening a week and weekend days on rotation. The successful candidate will 
demonstrate flexibility should schedule changes be needed to meet the demands of the 
workgroup. 
Typical work week: 
M TU TH 9:00-6:00 PM 
W11:15-8:15 PM 
Friday 9:00-6:00 PM 
Saturday rotation (biweekly) 9:15-6:15 PM (day off the following week) 
Sunday rotation (once per month) 12:45-5:15 PM (half day off the following week) 
Duties of the position include but are not limited to: 
• Assists customers in person, online, and by telephone with information needs. 
Must be proficient in utilizing the library catalog, online subscription databases, 
and the Internet. Supports public computing users with their use of library 
electronic resources, the Internet, and Microsoft Office applications. 
• Develops and implements quality library programming for adults, incorporating 
community knowledge to design optimal engagement opportunities. 
• Works with partner organizations to evolve community engagement. 
• Assists Section Manager with oversight and operation of designated areas of the 
Advanced Learning Library. 
• Assumes significant responsibility for small business and non-profit reference 
and programming. 
• Works with specialized collections such as the Motor Manuals, Sams Photofacts, 
Business reference, and the Nazar Foundation Collection 
• Promotes Library collections, programs, and services through reader’s advisory, 
bibliographies/filmographies, and the creation of displays. 
• Participates on library planning teams and serves on special projects as 
assigned. 
• Stays abreast of best practices in libraries through training and development 
activities, reading professional literature, and participating in professional 
activities. 
• Additional related duties as assigned. 
Position requirements include:

MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution 
(equivalent education and experience may be considered); outstanding communication 
(written and oral) and public presentation skills; a strong customer service commitment; 
knowledge of literature and informational trends; and an advanced level of proficiency 
with technology, including mobile and personal computing, integrated library systems, 
and media production. Spanish language or ASL skills are preferred. 
Evening and weekend shifts in rotation with other public service staff are 
required. Candidates should be able to drive to travel to different worksites throughout 
the workday when job assignment requires; therefore, will need reliable transportation. 
Residency within thirty minutes lawful driving time of the corporate limits of the City of 
Wichita will be required of the successful applicant. 
The current starting salary range for this position is $43,615 - $60,584 plus an excellent 
benefits package. The starting salary will be based on qualifications.
