Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: 

The Arapahoe Community College Library and Learning Commons exists to provide innovative technology, unrestricted access to information, and the instructional resources necessary to enlighten and empower Arapahoe Community College’s students, staff and community to achieve their educational, professional and personal goals. The Library and Learning Commons serves both in-person and online learners at the three ACC campuses.

The Technology & Digital Services Librarian is a full-time exempt position. This position exists to provide vision and leadership to investigate, evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies and digital resources into library systems and services. This person will manage the Library’s databases including communicating with vendors, analyzing statistics and troubleshooting technology issues. This person will also be responsible for cataloging and technical services duties, providing services to distance students by embedding in online courses and providing in-house reference help when necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

25%

Research, evaluate and introduce new technologies and digital resources as they relate to new trends in libraries. Guide initiatives from conception through implementation and then present to the ACC Community through innovative formats and monthly demonstrations. Maintain existing Library technology.

20%

Provide services to distance learners and instructors by embedding in online courses and making video tutorials.

20%

Catalogue and process new materials. Maintain accurate holdings of materials in library systems.

15%

Update and maintain the Library website and portal. Explore and develop ways to improve the Library’s online presence. Communicate with e-resource vendors about technology issues.

10%

Perform backup reference/instruction in person and online.

10%

Initiate and execute special projects in coordination with the Director of the Library and Learning Commons.

PROJECTED STARTING DATE: May, 2014

COMPENSATION:

Compensation is commensurate with education, experience and higher education industry standards. The anticipated full-time starting salary range will be in the $40's. ACC offers a competitive benefit program including health, dental and life insurance.

Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.

HOURS:

Full-time (exempt); mostly days, with one evening a week.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree of Library Science or Master’s degree of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution
  • One year of experience communicating with IT personnel and e-resource vendors
  • One year of library experience
  • Demonstrated experience in providing new digital resources to library patrons and strong commitment to assisting students, faculty and staff with new technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience instructing a diverse population on new technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in an academic library
  • Experience working with faculty and staff in a comprehensive community college context
  • Experience administrating databases
  • Experience with electronic resource management/knowledge-based systems
  • One year of experience in cataloging and/or technical services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Presently we serve over 10,000 students per semester in our credit programs and over 6,500 students per year in our non-credit programs. We offer nearly 100 degree and certificate programs.
