Job Description

The potential intern will assist in the completion of a project to inventory collections and provide remote access to library serials. Duties will include: o Assist in inventory and weeding of small circulating collection (requires 1-2 weeks of moderate physical work and ability to lift and carry 30 pounds) o Organize and inventory print back issues for current and canceled subscriptions o Identify and catalog options for electronic access to serials (including links to authenticated databases) on Horizon o Update holdings on Horizon Serials management system o Work with librarian to expand remote patron access to electronic serials

o Will be mentored by experienced librarian, and provided on-the-job training. o This is a temporary summer position beginning 6/15 and ending approximately 8/30/07 (240 hours of work). o Intern is expected to work the equivalent of half time. o An excellent opportunity to gain access to Horizon cataloging and Remote Patron Access functions as well as possible back end administrative access to databases on the EBSCO and FirstSearch platforms. o Ability to seek and find creative solutions o Knowledge of MARC21 and AACR2 standards. o Must be proficient in Word and Excel. o Advanced library database and catalog search skills o Ability to use Macintosh computers and/or ability to adapt to the use of new technologies o Completion of a graduate class or classes in cataloging is preferred. o Other duties as assigned

The Community

The Prevention Information Center (PIC) is a project of the non-profit Rocky Mountain Center for Health Promotion and Education (RMC). PIC receives funding from the Colorado Department of Human Services, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD). The PIC is a special library and clearinghouse. We serve as a resource to increase statewide capacity for the prevention and treatment of substance abuse. We do this by aiding in the identification of reliable consumer and professional health information, research findings, and best practices.
