Job Description

THE POSITION

The role of this Associate Director is to provide strategic leadership in planning, organizing, managing and directing the operation, services and activities of the community libraries, public outreach and mobile services to achieve PPLD’s Mission:  Providing resources and opportunities that change individual lives and build community.  Seek, Engage, Transform.  As a key member of the Leadership Team, the Associated Director assists the Executive Director in the administration and operations of Pikes Peak Library District.    

We are looking for a dynamic, team-oriented and innovative leader committed to providing a new century of library service.  The Associate Director is dedicated to meeting the needs of our diverse community by delivering a combination of innovative and traditional library programs and services. 

The Associate Director is a key supporter of our vision to propel our libraries to the center of community life as places where content is created and shared and where books and other resources are linked with programs and activities.  In continuing to honor basic library tenants: providing access to information and resources, the Associate Director will also support our commitment to provide exactly what the patrons need in the format they desire, at the very moment it will benefit them the most - speed sourcing for the 21st Century. 

As champion for intellectual freedom, the Associate Director is a key member of the Leadership Team who possesses the ability to analyze situations and demonstrate the ability to handle details without losing sight of the big picture.  The Associate Director is a skilled leader with a strong understanding of the full range of public library services, the trends and best practices in public librarianship and demonstrates a genuine commitment to providing the best possible patron experience including patron self-service options, automation systems and IT systems technology. 

The Associate Director represents PPLD at community and civic functions, fundraising events, national, regional and state library meetings and conferences with the highest degree of professionalism and acumen.    

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Working directly with the Executive Director develops short-and long-range goals for Public Services that align with the PPLD strategic plan
  • Serves on the PPLD Leadership Team; collaboratively makes District-wide recommendations and decisions
  • Determines and analyzes annual Public Services budgets; monitors expenditures so that they do not exceed approved budgetary parameters
  • Effectively communicates pertinent District information to divisions within Public Services
  • Maintains awareness of District activities and their impact on other District entities
  • Proactively assists Public Services division managers in problem-solving, planning, staffing, and goal-setting     
  • Evaluates training need assessment for Public Services staff; works collaboratively with the District Training Supervisor to prioritize and execute needed training programs  
  • Encourages professional development of the Public Services staff through participation in community and professional organizations
  • Selects, mentors, counsels, and evaluates Public Services Management staff
  • May serve on state and regional professional committees
  • Represents the District to community agencies and professional library groups  
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
