Hiring Range: $19.76 - $22.23 per hour
Summary: Provides assistance to library customers and staff in a variety of ways using technical skills and knowledge of cataloging and acquisition procedures and standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create a welcoming environment for all patrons and staff that fosters equity, diversity and inclusion by seeking to understand, respect and value individual differences.
- Provide responsive, courteous service to all customers, regardless of age, race, class, gender, appearance or ability.
- Performs copy cataloging using library online catalog and external bibliographic databases.
- Performs limited original cataloging.
- Participates in bibliographic correction and library database maintenance.
- Acquires library materials using library software and vendor databases.
- Reviews and verifies information on packing slips.
- Receives, sorts and prepares materials for processing.
- Creates reports to support selectors in meeting district goals.
- Directs the work of hourly staff and volunteers.
- Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Ability to understand and interpret bibliographic and cataloging tools.
- Knowledge of library services and materials.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience with the book and media publishing trade and their products.
- Knowledge of national and local standards for analysis and description of bibliographic information in machine readable coding.
- Fluency in Spanish is desirable for some positions.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including effective speaking, listening and writing is desirable for some positions.
- Self-motivated and the ability to work independently.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least one year of experience working with bibliographic records.
Language Abilities:
Ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Ability to recognize problems in online records and create solutions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Familiarity of Spanish language is desirable.
Reasoning Abilities:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
Normal office/library environment with moderate noise levels.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle and feel. The employee is occasionally required to climb and balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently required to push carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
