Definition:
Campus Attendants support City of Longmont facilities (Memorial Building, Library, Senior Center, Civic Center, DSC) by helping to ensure the safety and security of buildings and grounds for use by staff, patrons, and visitors. They continuously monitor assigned areas to prevent theft and vandalism, and actively engage visitors and staff to create a welcoming and respectful environment and ensure compliance with the Citywide Standards of Behavior. The Campus Attendant reports incidents and ongoing concerns to the Campus Supervisor, or refers emergency situations directly to law enforcement or emergency personnel as appropriate.
Principal Duties:
Maintains an alert and visible presence by regularly patrolling all areas of buildings, parking lots and access ways. Engages customers to ensure a welcoming atmosphere for staff and visitors. Explains rules and procedures to visitors to solicit cooperation and compliance and balance security authority with keeping our public buildings friendly and welcoming. Continuously monitors assigned areas to prevent theft and vandalism. Answers directional questions, referring complex questions to Campus Supervisor or appropriate staff. Recognizes and follows rules on a building-by-building basis. Provides necessary information to connect customers to City resources. Responds to staff calls for assistance. Monitors violations of the City of Longmont’s Standards of Behavior. Proactively and discreetly advises customers of inappropriate behaviors that may lead to loss of privileges. Responds to security or emergency situations directly, contacting appropriate staff, law enforcement, or emergency personnel when necessary. Takes a lead role in responding to building emergencies and evacuations. Routinely checks video security camera system. Prepares incident reports and relays them to the Campus Supervisor for review and action. Assists in the development of policies and procedures. Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Working Environment:
Work includes conducting regular foot patrols of assigned areas to maintain general security of the property, staff, and visitors. Job requires vision, hearing, and speaking ability to communicate effectively with the public and co-workers. Job requires use of fingers and both hands to write, do data entry, and answer phones. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and work effectively with upset, angry, or otherwise challenged customers. Requires the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, some of which may be outdoors. Must be able to reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and occasionally move or lift objects up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications:
High school graduate and one year of responsible experience requiring frequent public contract and the interpretation of rules and regulations. Previous experience performing security duties is highly desirable. Special Qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency preferred.
