Job Description

The Network Administrator Senior is responsible for designing, implementing and managing our 10 Gb wired LAN, Metro Ethernet WAN, and 802.11N wireless network for voice, data, video and services for Jefferson County Library IT Services division. This position will work with industry leading technologies such as Cisco, Meraki, telepresence and 801.11N Wi-Fi. Lead and manage multiple projects and work with executives, other technologists and end users.

  • Design, configuration and implementation of new data network devices and services. Management of network elements to maintain appropriate quality of services. 
  • Develops specifications and evaluates alternative technologies and vendors for hardware, software and services to meet business needs. Participates in professional forums and vendor events to maintain awareness of evolving network and service technologies and makes recommendations to management. 
  • Identifies, documents and trains staff in best practices and procedures for network design and administration. Design plans for system changes and determines impacts of new firmware and software updates and upgrades. Continuous improvement of operations, turnaround times and quality of work processes.  Monitors and assesses operating results and creates and modifies processes for continuous improvement. Works cooperatively with other individuals and teams to provide quality seamless customer service. Evaluates information for capacity planning and makes recommendations to management for purchases. 
  • Examines the data network for critical points of failure and implements solutions to mitigate risks and improve service reliability. Works with the Information Security Officer to analyze network vulnerabilities and implement solutions to mitigate security risks. Coordinates team efforts in troubleshooting critical or complex service issues and takes the lead in resolving them as required. 
  • Mentoring and Coaching - Mentors and coaches junior staff in new technologies and operational procedures. 
  • Serves as liaison and coordinator between the IT Services Network team and other county departments for network projects.  May serve on or lead committees, task forces and other inter-departmental teams. Collaborates with internal customers to identify technical requirements based on business needs.  Provides feasibility analysis to business areas and recommends solutions. 
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) within 3 years of date of hire.
  • Preferred - Expert level experience and skills in the design, implementation and management of wired and wireless data networks for a mid-size organization.
  • Position is currently highly remote with limited on-site work due to COVID regulations: will continue as a hybrid position with high flexibility for remote work in the future. Must be a Colorado resident or willing to relocate.
