Job Description

The Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is hiring a vibrant, innovative and dynamic Cataloging Services Supervisor to oversee all aspects of the receiving, processing and cataloging of materials for JCPL. This position supports the mission and vision of Jefferson County Public Library by overseeing the creation of a catalog of materials for the citizens of Jefferson County. This position collaborates on decisions regarding processing, cataloging, ILS functionality, discovery layers and more, to ensure our catalog connects JCPL patrons to our content. Supervises staff in area of responsibility. Position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119 and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association. Position reports to the Collections Manager.

  • SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES: The statements below are intended to describe the more specific nature and level of work being performed that is assigned to this position.   • SUPERVISION: Supervises staff in area of responsibility. Administers and makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action. Conducts performance evaluations.
  • CORE LIBRARY SERVICE: Communicates expectations to staff about Library services and trends. Works collaboratively and participates with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives. Applies input from the community and staff to support and direct cataloging objectives, discoverability of materials and how materials are processed. Maintains current knowledge of trends in libraries and cataloging and related fields to suggest new services and processes for development and implementation system-wide.
  • CATALOGING SUPERVISION: Lead the development of new initiatives in the area of cataloging. Oversee the management of Sierra ILS functions as they relate to cataloging and discoverability.  Oversee patron discovery layers such as BiblioCore.  Collaborate in the development and implementation of policies for the effective cataloging of materials. Oversees value added services from vendors. Works with vendors on new and existing services.
  • RECEIVING & PROCESSING: Oversee the processes and lead the development of new initiatives for receiving and processing materials for Jefferson County Public Library. Oversee the management of Sierra ILS functions as they relate to receiving and invoice processing. Coordinates special project such as opening day collection storage and receiving.
  • DATABASE MAINTENANCE: Oversee the maintenance of JCPL’s catalog in both Sierra and currently BiblioCore.  Investigate new ways and efficiencies to ensure our catalog is as current as possible using the reports available within Sierra. Oversee the management of Sierra ILS functions as they relate to record loading, authority control, data consistency and integrity.  Investigate APIs available from our various content providers.
  • SPECIAL PROJECTS: Works closely with the Collections and other JCPL teams and shareholders on special projects that involve our collection – maintenance, revisions, reprocessing, etc.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred - Masters degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library Information Systems (MLIS).

Preferred - One year supervisory experience.
