Job Description

The City of Westminster is seeking two compassionate and collaborative Library Associates who love working with children and their adults! The Library Associate II - Youth Services position is responsible for cocreating and delivering innovative programming, providing reference and readers’ advisory to all ages, and supporting outreach efforts.

The Youth Services Associate is a benefitted part-time position that regularly works the reference desk, provides outstanding customer service, answers an array of technology and reference questions, and creates engaging displays to highlight the library’s collection. With librarian supervision, this position also contributes to collection maintenance through ongoing weeding.

The ideal candidate for this role has a heart for public service, champions teamwork, and values equity and empathy in a community-focused library setting. Someone with a passion for youth services, engaging programming ideas, and patience with adults will thrive in this environment.

The Youth Services Associate is a paraprofessional position, and reports directly to the Youth Services Librarian. Two Youth Services Associate positions are available at this time. One position reports to College Hill and the other to Irving Street Library, however collaborative programming and desk shifts are expected at both locations.

Applicants must be available to work at least one night and weekend day each week.

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info

The full compensation range for this position is $19.38 - $24.81. Starting wages are negotiable and dependent on the qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. 

Note that two associate positions are being hired from this recruitment. Both positions are 20 hours (.5 FTE) per week. One position reports to College Hill and the other position reports to Irving Street. Associates are expected to cover shifts and programming at both locations. 

Applicants must be available to work at least one night and weekend day each week. 

The City of Westminster offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee’s fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Laotian, and/or American Sign Language (ASL).

Additional Info & Requirements

Required:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Graduation from High School or GED
  • Experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, elementary school, or children's department of a public or school library
  • Possess a valid Driver License and maintain a safe driving record 

Preferred:

  • Graduation from an accredited, four-year college
  • Experience in library youth services
  • Working knowledge of children’s and young adult literature
  • Spanish language skills 

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.

The Community

The College Hill branch is a destination library that services the surrounding community as well as an array of college students. It is jointly operated with the Front Range Community College and often partners with the upstairs academic Front Range library for circulation and various services.

The Irving Street branch is a neighborhood library at the heart of Historic Westminster. It is a small and busy location in a densely populated area with a diverse population, including Hispanic, Hmong, and Native American representation with a wide range of socioeconomic and generational backgrounds.
