Community Resource Specialist I

Purpose: Connect patrons with community resources and other organizations. Make recommendations to remove barriers and improve library service to special populations, provide support and resources for staff, and create and deliver training to employees. This position will entail a focus area on patron assistance or external community work, depending on the needs of the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
45% PATRON SERVICE - Identifies possible patrons needing assistance in the library, develops relationships and assists patrons with using library services, and refers or connects them with community resources as appropriate.
25% RESOURCE - Acts as a district resource by evaluating services to patrons, assisting with service implementation, collaborating with district supervisors and managers to problem solve specific incidents, analyzing incidents to find patterns or trends, and making recommendations on findings. Maintains and updates resource list for staff and patrons, work with other departments to update resources on our website as needed. Connect with community partners to build relationships and help other organizations identify the library as a valued community partner.
20% STAFF SUPPORT - Provides one-on-one and group staff support related to patron incidents and provides information about relevant community resources for staff to share with patrons. Advises staff in areas related to personal and professional boundaries.
10% COURSE DEVELOPMENT & DELIVERY - Identifies content for training and communicates content and answers questions. Collaborates with others to implement training as needed and identified.
Performs other related duties as assigned and requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two to three years of similar or related experience.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or related field.
- Demonstrated passion and commitment to serving the underserved.
- Working knowledge of community and governmental resources.
- Working knowledge of adult education theory and techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate openly, directly, clearly, and respectfully.
- Ability to travel between facilities and work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Intermediate technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- The ability to motivate and influence others is essential to the job, requiring skills in diplomacy, trust, confidentiality, and team building.
- Ability to successfully work with varying demographics.
- Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Library experience.
- Fluency in Spanish, Russian, or Arabic.
- Project management experience.
Work Environment:
The essential duties for this position are performed in an indoor office environment.
- Moderate noise (computers, phones, printers, and patron interactions).
- Ability to work in confined areas.
- Ability to work both inside and outside in all types of inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently, in a remote setting, as needed.
Physical Activities:
Physical activities required to perform essential duties include:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75-100% of the time.
- Must be able to move around 75-100% of the time.
- Ability to kneel, crouch, reach and stoop 25% of the time.
