Job Description

The University of Denver Libraries, comprised of the Main Library at the Anderson Academic Commons, the Bonfils Stanton Music Library in the Newman Center, and the off-site Hampden Center storage facility, is a highly collaborative, team-based organization that serves a diverse population, ranging from our students, staff, and faculty to public and other academic patrons from around the country and the surrounding region. Position Summary

This full-time position reports to the Library Collections Procurement and Processing Manager and is part of a unit that is responsible for the procurement and processing of the library’s collection of print serials and electronic resources, including e-books, e-journals, and databases. Daily tasks can include the ordering of e-books, invoice processing for electronic resources and subscriptions, managing bibliographic record collections for print and electronic DDA programs, and reviewing and approving licensing requests for streaming media. Additional responsibilities include configuring and monitoring SUSHI harvesting of usage data for electronic resources, and providing assistance with retrieving and compiling usage data for reports. This position also assists with recording licensing terms for e-resources in the Alma library management system and related records management. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • 25% Orders e-books for the library’s collection in response to purchase requests from library staff and patrons. This may include the import of MARC records into the library’s resource management system and the creation of order records for these purchases. Additionally, will review and process titles selected for purchase via an approval plan according to established guidelines.
  • 15% Enters invoices for electronic resources and subscriptions in the library’s resource management system.
  • 15% Approves licensing requests for streaming films available on either the Kanopy or Swank platforms. Also orders individual streaming titles from other established suppliers as needed.
  • 15% Maintains SUSHI harvesting of COUNTER data in the library’s resource management system. This includes setting up SUSHI harvesting in Alma for new resources, monitoring SUSHI harvesting jobs, troubleshooting to resolve harvesting job issues, and importing COUNTER usage data manually when necessary. Will also assist with generating reports in Alma Analytics incorporating this usage data.
  • 10% Maintains catalog records for print and electronic DDA collections including adding records for new content and removing records for older content that is no longer available.
  • 5% Supervises and trains one part-time hourly position that provides support for the LCPP unit.
  • 5% Oversees gift processing workflow by providing training and assistance to the hourly LCPP assistant who handles gift item processing.
  • 5% Enters license terms into the library’s resource management system according to guidelines established by the Library Collections Procurement & Processing Manager and Electronic Resources Access & Discovery Manager.
  • 5% Performs other duties/tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills that support the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization.
  • Ability to closely follow established procedures and perform work that requires considerable attention to detail; ability to use an automated library system and PC; ability to maintain clerical records.
  • Good judgment, problem-solving, and analytical skills that ensure practical solutions and accuracy in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in the English language is necessary, and since the library acquires materials in a variety of languages familiarity or knowledge of languages other than English is advantageous.
  • Strong math skills; ability to maintain accurate and thorough statistics on work performed.
  • Ability to read and analyze MARC records.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience working in a library technical services unit

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with acquisitions and/or electronic resource management in an academic library.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate thoughtfully and considerately with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment; ability to analyze and organize work and set priorities; proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a complex, changing environment and complete tasks according to an established timeframe.
  • Experience working with analytics systems to generate statistical reports and analysis, especially in compiling COUNTER usage data. Familiarity with the SUSHI protocol for automated harvesting of usage data.
  • Experience working with consortial partnerships and subscriptions.
  • Experience with fund management and vendor relations; knowledge of current issues and trends in collections development or acquisitions; knowledge of web technologies and metadata standards related to effective e-resource access and discovery.
  • Experience working with the Alma library resource management system.

Working Environment

  1. Standard office environment.
  2. Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
  3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

The work environment is an academic library, which is culturally diverse. The unit is highly automated with attention paid to ergonomics and safety, using workstations equipped with easy access to needed resources and access to the Internet. The unit is one of several working collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization.

Physical Activities

  1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
  3. Must be able to lift and move books; and move book trucks from one area to another.

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
