DPL is hiring a Branch Supervisor for the Athmar Park Branch. In this position, you will supervise staff and oversee daily operations at the Athmar Park Branch where all are free to explore and connect. The ideal candidate must be committed to providing a welcoming environment for all customers with the ability to foster curiosity by promoting our services throughout the community, especially among youth and our underserved populations. This person must make it a priority to connect with our customers, and build relationships while providing access to our collection and our space in an equitable manner. This person must be able to demonstrate accountability to members of the communities we serve as a good steward of our resources in a way that reflects our values and commitment to support the needs of a diverse community.

The Athmar Park Library is a small but mighty branch that provides services to a diverse community in southwest Denver. We are a full-service library committed to offering services that demonstrate the library’s values of Welcoming, Curiosity, Connection, Equity, and Stewardship in action. We are a tight-knit staff who support and encourage one another. We are committed to creating inviting and supportive experiences for library customers of all ages and backgrounds, working together with our community partners to connect people with resources in our service area. We are within walking distance of several schools, and our branch is always full after school and in the summer with young library fans. The library will be undergoing a remodel in 2023 with an expansion that will allow us to better meet the needs of our surrounding community.
About you
Our ideal candidate has:
- Ability to oversee building and grounds maintenance to ensure a welcoming environment for customers and staff at the branch location.
- Ability to coordinate and implement emergency preparedness standards to ensure a welcoming environment for customers and staff at the branch location.
- Ability to interpret and communicate library policies to staff and customers.
- Ability to calmly listen and respond to customers' complaints and emergency situations.
- Ability to keep track of the branch budget in alignment with library strategic objectives and values.
- Ability to steward all branch activities through scheduling and assigning work to ensure branch service needs are met.
- Ability to support organizational goals to maintain morale, to coach staff, and implement progressive discipline if necessary.
- Ability to evaluate staff, set goals and priorities to help staff reach a targeted outcome.
- Ability to work extended hours, including some nights and weekends.
- Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities, prioritize and set boundaries.
- Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media, and other software, with ability to work in a virtual environment.
- Ability to recruit, train, connect, motivate, and retain an equitably diverse team that is reflective of the community.
- Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and trauma-informed skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, and sense of humor in working with customers of all ages and backgrounds, coworkers, and community.
- Skill in providing strong, dedicated, inclusive, and compassionate leadership.
- Skills in providing programming, reference, and advisory services to all ages.
- Knowledge of popular materials and resources for all ages and of current trends in library programming.
- Experience in presenting and providing library services to customers of varying levels of knowledge and experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a retail or public service operational setting, or three (3) years of professional library experience.
Education Requirement: Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLIS).
Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
