The person in this position will keep the Wyoming library community, state government employees and general public informed of relevant information that may include:
- News from the WSL and Wyoming libraries statewide
- Training and grant opportunities
- Program ideas, funding and fundraising
- Local and national initiatives
- Governance and intellectual freedom topics
- Collection development and reference resources
Other important duties will include:
- Managing grants from applications support and project management to evaluation and final reports
- Promoting libraries, library services, literacy and special events through the development of daily blogs, monthly newsletters, press releases and social media posts
- Updating website content including library news, jobs and our libraries directory
- Producing library development and training documentation
- Answering both basic and complex reference inquiries
- Monitoring and sharing (internally) news related to state and national library issues
Preference will be given to applicants with a Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS). Preference will be given to applicants with a degree or experience in libraries, journalism, or nonprofit management.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Select, create, and disseminate information useful for those working in Wyoming libraries of all types to improve their knowledge and abilities. Oversee and provide support for grant projects. Promote the Wyoming State Library and the Wyoming library community.

- Scan environment for information of interest to the Wyoming library community.
- Research and select items to share that will improve the professional capacity of librarians and library workers in the field. Relevant information may include news from the WSL and from Wyoming libraries of all types statewide, training opportunities, grant opportunities, national initiatives, library operations, governance, intellectual freedom, program ideas, funding and fundraising, collection development, reference sources, and other items of use to local libraries.
- Choose appropriate communications channels to reach widest audience including blogging, social media, listservs, and a monthly PDF newsletter delivered via email to subscribers including librarians and library workers, stakeholders, and the A&I communications team.
- Manage grants from application support and project management to evaluation and final reports. These grants may include federal LSTA funds, IMLS special purpose grants, and various other non-profit organizations.
- Provide guidance and training on grants and information on grant opportunities to Wyoming libraries.
- Produce specialty library development and training documentation such as Wyoming Library Laws, the directors’ and trustees’ manuals and other irregularly occurring publications.
- Promote libraries, library services, and literacy through press releases, fact sheets, submissions to the A&I newsletter, and special projects such as Wyoming Snapshot Day.
- Assist with WSL marketing plans and initiatives.
- Update website content of use to the library community, state employees, and general public.
- Maintain the Wyoming Libraries Directory to promote networking among the state’s libraries and provide that information to the general public.
- Answer both basic and complex reference inquiries. Collaborate with other librarians on complex reference inquiries.
- Staff the service desk as needed.
- Monitor news sources and compile information where local libraries are involved in difficult or contentious issues.
- Share information gathered with the state librarian and library development manager.
- Provide research support where needed.
