The Lawrence Public Library seeks a qualified candidate with audio-visual expertise and excellent customer service skills to support the services offered in the library’s SOUND+VISION Studio. Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Manages, maintains, and provides technical support for all aspects of the SOUND+VISION Studio, including scheduling; serves as primary contact for vendors and staff regarding studio equipment and software.
- Develops, organizes, coordinates, and presents SOUND+VISION-related technology programs and classes.
- Maintains the equipment and supplies needed for the operation of the studio. Stays informed of new trends in the profession; evaluates and recommends updates and new equipment and software.
- Maintains SOUND+VISION related social media accounts.
- Manages and supports public technology circulating collections (AV Tools for checkout).
- Takes the lead in Public Technology issues in the absence of the Supervisor.
- Acts as primary backup for technical support for all of the library’s audio and video services, including projectors, sound system, and public address system.
- Greets patrons and provides service at the Technology Desk and via other support platforms (phone, email, etc.); assists library patrons with the use of library technology; troubleshoots problems; utilizes the computer reservation system; assists patrons with printing and copying
Required qualifications:
- Self-motivated and able to work with little or no direct supervision.
- Highly organized and able to keep track of a large array of physical resources (while making them available for public use).
- Advanced knowledge of digital audio workstation software, sufficient to support patron use of several DAW solutions available in the studio (Studio One, Logic, ProTools, Ableton, Garage Band etc)
- Knowledge of multimedia software, sufficient to support patron use of solutions available in the studio (Adobe Creative Cloud, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X, etc)
- Proficiency with Mac OS, sufficient to maintain and support use of studio computers.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Displays patience and compassion, especially when faced with difficult situations and personalities.
- Bachelor’s degree in film and media production, audio engineering, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred qualifications:
- Expertise in audio production or another area which supports the mission of the studio. (Video production, grant writing, AV archival experience, event coordination experience, etc.)
- Experience sufficient to maintain instruments used in the space as well as to understand and relate to the needs of musicians using the space. Basic regular maintenance includes, among other things: replacing guitar strings, tuning guitars, replacing drum heads, tuning drums. Other troubleshooting of instrument related issues as they arise.
