Supervisor, Koebel Library

Arapahoe Libraries is seeking a Branch Supervisor to oversee daily operations and lead the dedicated team at Koelbel Library. You'll support staff in delivering welcoming, innovative library services that reflect the unique needs, experiences, and stories of our community, while balancing daily demands with long-term strategic goals.

About the Role
Koelbel Library is a trusted and inclusive gathering place for the Centennial community, known for its accessible resources, meaningful programming, and strong community relationships. As Branch Supervisor, you'll guide and support a dedicated team, contribute to district-wide initiatives, and foster a responsive environment where diverse voices are celebrated and every patron feels seen, supported, and empowered to explore.

Key Responsibilities

Branch Operations

  • Ensure smooth daily operations, from building and equipment oversight to service continuity
  • Allocate resources, prioritize workflows, and communicate effectively with staff
  • Create and manage staff schedules that ensure consistent, high-quality patron experiences
  • Support collection maintenance and provide direct service at least 4 hours each week

Supervision and Leadership

  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor new staff
  • Supervise and support ongoing development through feedback, coaching, and evaluation
  • Lead by example, working alongside team members and promoting a collaborative culture
  • Serve as an on-call leader for crisis response and support strategic planning efforts

Customer Relations and Community Engagement

  • Model and promote inclusive, trauma-informed service
  • De-escalate challenging situations and resolve patron and staff concerns
  • Build relationships with community members and engage in outreach opportunities

District and Cross-Functional Contributions

  • Participate in project teams or lead district trainings as assigned
  • Support organizational direction through change leadership and input on strategic initiatives

What You'll Bring

Supervisory and Mentorship Experience: Proven ability to hire, coach, and develop staff in a supportive and structured environment

Operational Strength: Skilled in prioritizing daily workflows, managing scheduling, and troubleshooting building or equipment issues

Equity-Focused Perspective: Committed to inclusive practices and trauma-informed service

Emotional Intelligence: Demonstrates empathy, strong interpersonal awareness, and effective communication in support of staff and patrons

Adaptability and Change Readiness: Comfortable leading through change with clarity and compassion

Tech Confidence: Willingness to explore new tools and support patrons and staff through new or updated technological processes.

Alignment to ALD Core Values: Embraces collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning to strengthen community impact

Qualifications

Required:

  • Two years of relevant experience in library or customer service settings
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Experience teaching, training, or mentoring others
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel between facilities and work evenings/weekends
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Edge
  • Proactive problem-solving, confidentiality, and independent initiative

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with public library systems, customer service technologies, and scheduling tools
  • Experience working with diverse populations in a trauma-informed setting
  • 2+ years of leadership/supervisory experience
  • Interest in learning and applying emerging technologies in patron service

Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
