JOB SUMMARY
Poudre Libraries is hiring for an Adult Services Librarian to join our Council Tree Library team! As the Adult Services Librarian, you will perform professional library services using innovative programming, research, and resources to meet community needs. Your role will inspire lifelong learning, collaboration, and advocacy for the library in support of the library’s goals and mission. As the Adult Services Librarian, you will offer a variety of programming and content creation. You will also be responsible for managing the service desk schedule for library assistants and librarians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBLITIES

Including the following:

·       Creates a welcoming environment for all customers and staff that fosters equity, diversity, and inclusion by seeking to understand, respect, and value individual differences. 

·       Demonstrates tactful and conscientious service to people of all ages, races, abilities, cultures, and genders.

·       Assists customers in the use and navigation of library materials, resources, and technologies.  

·       Provides reference services to locate reliable information and specific materials for customers. 

·       Identifies, plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates informative and relevant public programs that meet community interests and needs for adults of all ages. May collaborate with staff, community agencies, or contractors to leverage the library’s reach and/or mission.  

·       Creates and maintains service desk schedule to ensure staffing levels are met.

·       Collaborates with Library Manager, Librarians, and staff to coordinate desk schedule, programming, and storytime schedules to meet dynamic branch needs.

·       Assists the Library Manager with managerial duties including assisting and training staff, resolving customer disputes, and acting as person in charge. 

·       May recommend additions to and removal of items from the collection in order to keep collection appealing, current, and relevant to the community. 

·       May take a leadership role in coordinating various teams and districtwide initiatives. Participates in teams and committees. 

·       May plan and direct staff development programs.

·       Provides effective readers’ advisory for all readers using adept communication skills, readers’ advisory tools, and personal knowledge of books and authors.  

·       Directs and oversees the work of volunteers and hourly staff.

·       Builds and sustains relationships with Library District community partners.

·       Assists customers with circulation functions which include, but are not limited to, issuing and updating library cards, placing holds, and addressing account problems.   

·       Creates dynamic displays to enhance the library experience and to promote the use of library resources and books.

·       Acts as Person in Charge as needed; responds to and documents emergencies. 

·       Helps to maintain safety, security and healthy environments in the library.  Responds to facility hazards and emergencies according to protocols.  

·       Stays current on Poudre Libraries policies, processes, procedures, events, and technologies required to perform work duties. Participates in training and continuing education as needed.

·       Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS + ABILITIES

·       Must possess excellent customer service experience and skills, including deescalating difficult patrons and navigating occasional volatile situations. 

·       Must possess excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a diverse population, co-workers, and supervisor. 

·       Knowledge of current and emerging models, practices, and tools used by public libraries for the access and discoverability of resources. 

·       Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies, Internet navigation, social media outlets, and Integrated Library Systems (ILS) software. 

·       Ability to use digital applications, communication tools, and data to create schedules and issue them in a timely manger.

·       Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community.   

·       Ability to understand and use library resources, both digital and physical, with proven ability to research, retrieve, evaluate, and utilize information. 

·       Ability to provide leadership and embrace risk taking, innovation, collaboration, and change. 

·       Ability to resolve requests and issues using critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills. 

·       Ability to lead, coordinate, and manage special projects and initiatives.   

·       Ability to gather, interpret, and analyze data to inform decisions. 

·       Ability to present programs to a variety of audiences. 

·       Ability to create and manage a budget. 

·       Ability to operate with minimum supervision and work independently as well as cooperatively in a team environment. 

·       Ability to work a flexible schedule, including night and weekend shifts. 

EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE

·       Bachelor’s degree plus two years of library or related professional experience is required.

·       Master of Library Science or relevant Master’s degree is desirable. 

·       Adult programming experience is desirable.

LANGUAGE ABILITIES

·       Ability to read, speak, and communicate in English fluently is required.

·       Ability to read, speak, and communicate in Spanish fluently is desirable.

·       Conversational ability in other languages is desirable.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT + PHYSICAL DEMANDS

·       Work primarily in a public library environment and sometimes in community settings.

·       The demands on the visual sense are very high. 

·       Regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, talk and hear. 

·       Regularly reach, lift and move arms above shoulder level. 

·       Occasionally push moveable carts weighing up to 150 pounds. 

·       Occasionally lift and/or move materials weighing up to 30 pounds. 

·       Occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance. 

·       Concentrate on and complete tasks in the presence of distractions. 

·       Regularly operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, point of sale system, bar code reader, copy and fax machines. 

·       Continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement. 

·       Moderate to loud noise levels.

·       Travel to/from meetings and various locations.  

·       Work shifts vary and occur during all library operating hours.
