Accountant II, Arapahoe Libraries

Financial Expertise for a Community‑Focused Mission
Arapahoe Libraries is seeking an Accountant II to oversee and support the accuracy of financial transactions, reporting, and internal controls across the district. In this role, you'll contribute to the integrity of our financial systems, provide guidance to staff, and help ensure that public funds are managed with transparency and accountability.

This role focuses on transaction review, financial reporting, internal controls, and general ledger reconciliation. Your work will directly support strategic decision‑making and empower staff across the library district to deliver exceptional public service.

About the Role
You'll serve the Finance Department, collaborating with colleagues across all library locations and administrative teams. You'll contribute to the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), assist with audits, and act as a resource for other departments. Your expertise supports district-wide priorities and promotes sound fiscal management at every level of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Transaction Review and Approval

  • Review and approve purchase requisitions, accounting packets, and journal entries for accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Ensure all entries reflect financial best practices and operational transparency.

Recording Transactions and General Ledger Closing

  • Compile and classify financial data, record complex journal entries using accrual accounting.
  • Support monthly and annual closings by reconciling ledgers, reviewing balances, and preparing documentation for auditors.

Reporting, Audit Support, and ACFR Preparation

  • Generate and customize reports for capital project budgets, cash flow forecasts, and other financial needs.
  • Support the production of the ACFR and coordinate with auditors to meet reporting standards.

Internal Controls and Technical Guidance

  • Help implement accounting control procedures and identify process improvements.
  • Provide technical accounting support to internal teams, research standards, and offer clear, solutions-focused advice.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Two to five years of related experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), Microsoft Teams, and accounting software.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Preferred:

  • Experience in governmental accounting (GASB standards).
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting (FASB standards).
  • Familiarity with Tyler Technologies ERP PRO 10 or other fund accounting software.
