The Lyons Community Library seeks a creative and collaboratively natured individual to serve as a part-time Library Associate. As the Lyons Community Library is warm and small, duties will include provision of library services to all ages at all service points. Position could include evening and occasional Saturday hours.
Job Description/Summary:
Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Library Associate provides excellent customer service and timely information to patrons of all ages, including children and their families. This position performs circulation and readers’ advisory duties, assists patrons with technology, and supports programming, outreach, and day-to-day library operations. The ideal candidate is friendly, adaptable, and eager to learn new skills in a collaborative, community-oriented environment. Evening and weekend hours are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Perform all circulation functions. Includes creating patron accounts/issuing library cards, checking materials in and out, and processing courier deliveries.
- Assist patrons in using computers, digital devices, and online tools including e-readers, cloud-based software, and the library’s digital collections. Provide support for printing, scanning, and other public technology.
- Act as an information and referral source to patrons by communicating in person, by phone, and via electronic means. Performs simple to moderately complex research activities.
- Provide all-ages readers’ advisory.
- Support library programming by assisting with setup, registration, attendance tracking, and follow-up.
- Contribute to promoting library programs and collections through displays, website updates, or social media content.
- Position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under C.R.S. § 24-90-119, the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, and federal and state accessibility laws — including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Colorado’s digital accessibility requirements under C.R.S. § 24-85-101 et seq. — ensuring equitable public access to both physical and digital resources.
- Champion the library’s strategic goals and initiatives with the library’s mission, vision, and core values in mind.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to special projects, outreach, or initiatives that support the Library District’s goals and community partnerships.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development to maintain and enhance skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the library.

Preferred:
- Basic Spanish-language proficiency.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree.
- 2 years customer service experience; library experience preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant job experience may be substituted.
Certificates and Licenses:
None Required.
Preferred:
Possession of Colorado Notary Public certification or willingness to complete such.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in a library setting with regular public interaction. Duties require sitting, standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting or moving of materials up to 25 pounds. The position requires the ability to push loaded book carts, reach above shoulder level, and operate standard office and library equipment including computers, printers, scanners, and mobile devices.
The employee must be able to concentrate and complete tasks in a busy, shared environment. Occasional participation in off-site programs or community events may be required.
