Job Description

The Mattapoisett Free Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, creative, and community-minded Adult & Young Adult Services Librarian to join our team.

The Adult & Young Adult Services Librarian plays an important role in helping the library continue to grow and innovate. This position is ideal for a librarian who enjoys connecting with people, experimenting with creative programming ideas, and helping the library continue to evolve as a dynamic community space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services for adult and teen patrons.

  • Plan and present engaging programs and events for adults and young adults. Creativity, collaboration, and new ideas are encouraged.

  • Develop, select, and maintain materials for the adult and young adult collections in multiple formats.

  • Build relationships with local schools, community groups, and organizations to support teen engagement and outreach.

  • Assist patrons with technology, digital resources, and research questions.

  • Create promotional content for library programs and services, including website and social media posts.

  • Participate in circulation desk coverage and general public service responsibilities as needed.

  • Collaborate with staff to support library initiatives, community partnerships, and special events.

Schedule

This is a full-time union position (35 hours per week) and includes some evening and weekend hours.

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info

This is an hourly position. Pay range: $30.63– $33.44 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Comprehensive benefits are provided in accordance with the Town of Mattapoisett policies and the Mattapoisett Professionals Union contract. Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program, or currently enrolled in an accredited program.

  • Strong commitment to public service and community engagement.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a public library.

  • Experience planning and presenting programs for adults and/or teens.

  • Familiarity with integrated library systems, digital resources, and emerging technologies.
