ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides excellent customer service and maintains a courteous, positive image of the library when interacting with patrons and staff.
Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions. Works on the public service desks providing information service to walk-in and telephone patrons. Assists and instructs patrons through material and on-line searches, computer software applications, community referrals, and outside sources/collections. Refers patrons and in-depth research questions to reference staff. Under the Teen Services Coordinator’s direction, performs a variety of teen service and support activities for approximately 30% of work time; prepares and conducts booktalks for teens, participates in Teen Services meetings, plans and hosts teen programs, maintains and monitors teen programming kits, and facilitates the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meetings. Also assists the Teen Services Coordinator with planning, organizing, and implementing the Summer Reading Program. Duties include journal design and ordering and t-shirt bids and ordering. May serve on Library teams or participate in programs as assigned; keeps informed of library and departmental information on changes via electronic and written communication; and attends meetings as required. Will teach computer and other classes for the public. May troubleshoot basic computer and office equipment problems. Performs other related duties as assigned
- Requires a minimum of one year of library experience or other public service work experience
- Requires intermediate-level proficiency using Microsoft software applications (specifically MS Word, Excel, Outlook); prefer candidates that can accurately type 45+ words per minute. Photoshop proficiency is a plus.
- Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment, a “whatever it takes” work ethic, and an excellent customer service attitude; bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse patrons
