The Metadata Services Department supports our mission by providing thorough and timely access to information resources through collaboration with clients and the wider library community. The department is designed to promote client self-sufficiency in finding, identifying, selecting, and obtaining resources.
In this role, working with the Metadata Services Department's Digital Collections Unit you will help provide access to the Libraries' digital repositories, including the CU Digital Library, CU Scholar, and ArchivesSpace. You will have supervisory responsibilities for one Library Technician II and one Library Techncian III.
You will also be managing IT projects related to digital collections, non-MARC metadata creation, and metadata/cataloging for materials housed outside the Libraries, including developing procedures, training, and revising the contributions of other staff. You will have a leadership role with regard to digital projects and non-MARC metadata provision and substitute for the Metadata Librarian when necessary. You’ll have a broad array of responsibilities including:
- Managing the copy cataloging activities of the unit.
- Setting unit priorities, workflow, and division of tasks.
- Assigning ongoing and project work.
- Designing and implementing copy cataloging procedures in accordance with the policies of the department and procedures of the Monographic and Special Materials Cataloging Unit.
- Developing procedures, training, and revising the work of staff.
- Coordinating the unit's activities with other units in the department and with other departments in the Libraries.
- Solving cataloging problems.
- Performing original and complex copy cataloging in a variety of formats.

Qualifications
What we require:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Three years of library experience with at least one year of experience in cataloging and/or metadata. Substitution: A Master's of Library and Information Science or the equivalent may substitute for up to two years of general library experience.
What you will need:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of at least one language other than English.
What we’d like you to have:
- Experience supervising classified staff and/or student employees.
- Experience in providing access to library resources (e.g., cataloging, metadata creation, etc.).
- Familiarity with authority records and controlled vocabularies such as LCSH, AAT, TGN, etc.
- Experience with OCLC Connexion.
- Experience with Innovative Interfaces Integrated Library System.
- Familiarity with LUNA, Digital Commons, ArchivesSpace, or other digital repository/metadata provision tools.
- Familiarity with MS Excel and MarcEdit.
- Familiarity with XSLT and/or one or more scripting languages.
- Ability to adapt within a rapidly changing information-supply environment.
Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
