GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Roving Librarian position performs a variety of professional duties and services for ALL library patrons. Assists patrons in using reference tools, conducting in-depth research, locating materials and managing accounts. Instructs patrons in the use of resources across formats and platforms. Work is performed with considerable independent judgement and initiative. The Roving Librarian will become a part-time employee with benefits, (based on eligibility).
This position will be assigned to a region: Region I – PSM, PA, CAP. Douglas County Libraries needs one Roving Librarian for this region, and you would primarily work within this assigned region. However, schedules will vary, and may change with little notice to accommodate last-minute scheduling needs of Douglas County Libraries. Based on this need, applicants should be available to work weekend and evening hours and have the flexibility to work additional hours when needed.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Ability to assist patrons of all ages by providing professional library reference services, conducting in-depth searches, preparing bibliographies, locating materials. Supports “patron first” practices.
- Readers’ Advisory service to patrons.
- Proficiency in preparation and presentation of Douglas County Libraries’ popular “Storytimes.”
- Ability to demonstrate a professional, positive, cooperative, team-oriented working relationship with staff, coworkers and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: A baccalaureate in Library Science or related field and continuing education units in reference is desired. Masters of Library Science is preferred.
- Experience: Two years previous professional library experience preferably in a public library.
- Required: Flexible availability is required to work at our six libraries, and may vary and change with little notice to accommodate last-minute scheduling.
