Job Description

What you'd do:

Work with the New Americans Project team and staff members across the Denver Public Library system to build and implement programming designed to engage immigrants, refugees and receiving community members. Using library resources, help branch staff provide support for multicultural and multilingual communities and implement best practices in programming and customer service. Monitor and evaluate program performance. Collaborate with community partners such as the Denver Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs and other key stakeholders.

This full-time, limited term position is funded through December 31, 2019. Although the full salary range for this position is provided, starting salary is typically at or near the range minimum. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours.

You have:

Skill in designing, preparing, promoting, implementing, delivering and evaluating programs for diverse communities. Skill in facilitating group conversations, staff training and professional development opportunities. Skill in presenting information to a diverse audience in a wide range of ages and cultures, both individually and in groups. Skill in choosing appropriate materials for programs and outreach. Skill in identifying opportunities for outreach and community engagement. Ability to ensure that detailed requirements, services and reporting activities are met. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and decision making in meeting organizational objectives. Ability to relate to the needs of customers of all ages and skill levels, including those without English language proficiency. Ability to work closely with team members and negotiate successful immigrant and refugee services throughout the Denver Public Library system depending on the unique needs of branches located in different service areas. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, social media and other software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

Three years of experience organizing all aspects of a program and delivering program services in a library, educational institution, community non-profit or adult learning organization.

Experience coordinating program services involving several organizational entities.

A Bachelor's degree in a related field of study.

Second language fluency (preferred, not required).

A desire to work with intergenerational groups in a multilingual environment.

Excellent customer service skills.
