Come join our wonderful Library staff! You will be much appreciated as you, under the general supervision of our Head of Technical Services, perform a wide variety of technical tasks in the testing, installation, and troubleshooting of personal computer hardware and software. You will provide your expertise and support to staff to support library technology, and provide technical assistance to the public at the Library service desk.
Principal duties: Prepare and determine hardware and software requirements for personal computers in public computer labs. Install and maintain the same. Load and configure PC software. Provide first level support for staff PCs, printers, etc. Troubleshoot problems, perform diagnostics on personal computer configurations for both staff and public PCs, printers, etc. Maintain activity log. Assist users in determining appropriate types of computer components and technology needed to support library functions. Research hardware and software components for library technology, gather configuration information, and prepare equipment orders. Assist in developing and modifying procedures relating to PC, software installation, and library technology. Support and assist users with hardware and software problems and questions through the Help Desk. Communicate with service vendors as to the nature of the problem and diagnostic results. Perform training and assistance in the use of PCs and library technology. Perform special projects and assignments as assigned. Perform essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City attributes.

One to two years of experience with IBM compatible personal computers, hardware, software, and Microsoft Office programs. Experience with integrated library systems, library database service providers and library apps highly desirable. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
Work is performed in a standard library environment, which includes exposure to dust. Work requires problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Work involves frequent reading, reasoning, customer contact, multiple concurrent tasks, constant interruptions, heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds or more), pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, bending/stooping. Work involves occasional sitting, climbing, twisting, kneeling, and squatting. Requires periodic travel to other departments. Work requires ability to hear and communicate orally with library patrons. Work requires working days, evenings, and weekends on a regular basis. Work frequently involves confidentiality, reasoning, problem-solving and attention to detail.
