Job Description

In the role of Circulation Media Specialist & Weekend Supervisor you'll provide patrons with information access at the Libraries' central service points. You will also provide training and supervision for Norlin Circulation student employees during weekend operational hours. In addition, you'll process audio-visual materials purchased by the Film Studies Department, oversee maintenance of Libraries' a/v collection, and assist Film Studies personnel and researchers with circulating these materials for instruction and research use. You will also assist with processing materials for Course Reserves and managing Norlin spaces and equipment for student research purposes.

Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide resource access, general reference, and information services to patrons through the use of library systems and other available resources. 
  • Monitor and evaluate current services, procedures, practices, and documentation for improvements. 
  • Supervise and provide ongoing training to student personnel scheduled during weekend hours at the central service points in Norlin Library (Circulation and Commons).  
  • Be a central contact person and operations resource for service points at other campus Libraries as well as for Libraries Security and Norlin Building Management during weekend operational hours. 
  • Process, maintain, and assist with access to, and circulation of, a variety of Department materials, course reserves, and collections. As part of these responsibilities, you will evaluate systems and procedures related to accessing audiovisual collections for improvements, and in conjunction with the Circulation Coordinator, plan, and implement improvements.
  • Assist with management of Norlin spaces and equipment for student research.

  • Two years working in a public or academic library OR appropriate education to substitute on a year-for-year basis.

What we would like you to have: 

  • Knowledge of film archiving and preservation methodologies.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in library circulation and related integrated library systems such as Sierra, ILLiad interlibrary loan system, etc.
  • Familiar with OCLC or similar systems.
