Job Description
Basalt Regional Library has an opening for a Technology and Media Supervisor. Since effectively using digital resources and online information is so vital for success and even happiness in today’s world, are you a person who is excited and knowledgeable about working with technology (computers, mobile devices, and digital resources)? Do you embrace and not flinch when confronted with all the ups and downs related to the “tech world”? MLS/MLIS Degree required with minimum of 2 years work experience in a public library. Further details of the job include the following responsibilities:
- In-house IT person at the library
o Will be the key liaison with Marmot Library Network with which library is contracting for services related to the updating and working of public and staff computers. This person will work closely with Marmot technical staff.
o Troubleshoot other equipment (public copier, staff copier, RFID equipment, card printer, disc cleaner) and use support/contractors as needed
o Equipment like projectors and Nomad, etc. in conference and community rooms
o Point of contact for problems with web connection for door system, light system, EMS calendar
o Point of contact for wireless and internet problems – some of which Marmot will be the contractor
- Responsible for renewal of database and digital subscriptions, working with collection and department managers to determine whether to renew, add databases, etc.
o Gather usage statistics with regard to these systems
- Prepare and teach adult PC and technology classes for library patrons
o Examples: basic PC and/or tablet info; searching techniques (Internet and library catalog); Microsoft Office software; Windows operating systems; downloading digital materials through apps or PCs; etc.
- Provide training on some software or products to staff, as well as patrons
- Do one-on-one sessions with patrons relating to device, PC and software issues (book a tech librarian) or as needed when paged by the staff while patron in library
- Be a member of some committees/taskforces relating to our library consortium, the Marmot Library Network (monthly webinars and related follow-up to share with managers and staff as needed)
o Discovery Committee (focus on the catalog, named Pika)
o E-Content Committee – various digital products/items that the network evaluates and may approve for the consortium
o Access Services Committee – focused on circulation and the ILS software, Sierra
- Media/Marketing focus (for this position and related to the supervisory role) involves:
o Website
o Marketing materials for databases, digital items (magazines, newspapers, ebook and eaudiobook items)
- Bookmarks
- Posters
- Trifolds
- Banners
o Social media – currently Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
o Posters for programs and events at the library
o E-Newsletter, published weekly with some additional e-newsletters sent out
- Supervisor of a media/technology assistant (whose primary work load involves media/marketing items)
- Patron services duties (front desk which is called circulation, and check-in room)
Requirements
- MLS or MLIS Degree preferred
- 2 years minimum work experience in a public library
- Experience with Sierra ILS software a plus
- Above-average customer service skills (must like people and helping people)
- Ability to interact successfully with a patron base that includes all ages and many nationalities
- Flexible
- Ability to work with other staff members.
- Good communication skills
- Excellent technology skills, related to Microsoft Office and free web-based software, PCs, printers, tablets, and other mobile devices
- Experienced in teaching small classes, primarily to older and/or non-technical patrons
- Ability to be supervisor-in-charge as needed when managers out of library
- Good knowledge of social media and other common or popular apps or programs
General
- Full-time position, 40 hours/week
- Expected schedule: Tuesday through Saturday
- Patron services duties expected to be approximately 20 hours/week
- Hourly position, with a benefit package (includes medical, vacation, and retirement)
- Reports to Library Director
