Director of Library Services
Western State Colorado University seeks a full time director for the Leslie J. Savage Library. Savage Library, with a collection of over 250,000 titles and access to over 70,000 e-books and 60 electronic journal databases, provides information, resources, and services designed to advance the intellectual and personal development of members of the University community.
Responsibilities: The Director of Library Services provides collaborative leadership, working with library staff, campus administrators, faculty, and students to advance the library’s role as an integral part of the University. The director is responsible for the overall administration of library operations, including facility and resource management, budget, supervision of staff, and planning in line with the University’s mission and strategic initiatives. The Director of Library Services reports to the Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs.
Required Qualifications: MLS Degree from an ALA accredited program; library experience demonstrating a progression of successful responsibility and leadership, including management and supervision of personnel; commitment to liberal education and the integral role of the library on a university campus; ability to work collegially and collaboratively with constituents, including various administrative teams; ability to provide leadership in library operations including implementation of emerging technologies, collection development, and support for instruction and research; excellent communication skills; ability to work with library staff to provide excellent service to faculty, staff, students, and community members; strong organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated experience administering library resources, including budgets; demonstrated experience in organizational planning, assessment, and evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications: Additional advanced degree; at least five years of professional academic library experience; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with local, state, and regional library organizations; experience in library development efforts, including grant seeking and fundraising.
