Job Description

What You'd Do

Create lifelong library customers by implementing library services designed for customers of all ages seeking popular materials and quick service. Manage the Bear Valley Library's After School is Cool program. Provide readers advisory, reference assistance, and programming. Design engaging displays and participate in merchandising of the entire collection. Participate in community outreach and collection maintenance activities. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff and administration.

A significant component of this position will include managing Bear Valley Branch Library's After School is Cool (ASIC) program beginning in Fall 2018 and running throughout the school year. The ASIC program is specially designed for kids aged 8-12, and will constitute approximately 50% of the responsibilities for this position.
 
Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.
 
The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include regular evening and Saturday shifts.

You Have

Skill in providing excellent customer service. Skill in and passion for working closely with tweens and teens. Skill in providing effective reference interviews, readers advisory service, and information literacy instruction for customers with different levels of literacy or technology abilities, and customers of all ages. Skill in using and assisting customers with technology. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact.  Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community.  Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.  Ability to multi-task and prioritize.  Ability to demonstrate teamwork, innovation, and flexibility. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

A Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

Experience with developing and presenting dynamic story times for young children.
 
Innovative ideas for adult programming, and a willingness to try new things.

Spanish or Vietnamese language fluency (preferred, not required).
