Job Description

Library Systems & Services (LS&S) is currently seeking a part time Library Acquisitions Specialist to work from home up to 10 hours per week. Providing a full range of library operation and management services, LS&S is leading the charge in library excellence to better reach, engage and serve patrons and communities.   • Selects books, eBooks, audio books, DVDs, music and other materials for a variety of audiences and subject areas for public libraries across the country

  • Analyzes collection performance reports, vendor catalogs, media, websites, blogs, reviews, demand data, and other information to determine appropriate titles

  • Develops monthly master lists of recommended titles that will serve as the base order list for all libraries

  • Grids and orders titles using major vendor catalogs

  • Monitors library collection budgets

  • Manages staff and patron requests

  • Reviews collection performance with library staff and management

  • Visits libraries, familiarizes themselves with library staff and community, evaluates and profiles collection

  • Develops weeding lists for libraries based on collection performance data

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree

Other Required/Preferred Skills & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

  • At least two years’ experience doing selection, buying and collection management in a public library or a bookstore

  • Ability to analyze and interpret collection performance data – experience with Above the Treeline or collectionHQ preferred

  • Familiarity with selection and ordering from at least one major vendor catalog – knowledge of multiple vendors preferred

  • Current and thorough knowledge of all major publishers, authors, illustrators and publishing trends
